European Parliament voted on the new type approval legislation on two- and three-wheel vehicles and quadricycles. The Parliament decided to keep the original European Commission proposal: only pedelecs with a maximum speed of 25 km/h and 250 watts power will remain exempt from motorbike regulation.
Well, this is the end of the discussion, which runs since a year. The European Two Wheeler Retailers’ Association (ETRA) amended to change the current regulation to allow the power hungry users to have bigger performance in their bikes. Especially the MTBs used in hilly area or the s-pedelecs with 45 km/h top speed would use more power.
Well, I’m not convinced this is the right decision… What about you? Any opinion?
